Chairman's Statement


2006 was our 50th year of operating within the Construction Industry. In the beginning we constructed sewage works, pipelines and foundations, for customers who wanted a long term, reliable and effective relationship. We then expanded into roads and bridges, aiming to make a reasonable profit for a good service to customers.

50 years on, the emphasis on good long term relationship continues as our rationale. And we have over 500 direct employees, organised into 14 operating 'construction' divisions, so that management and efficiency and service is maintained for the construction related work required by our customer, whether small or large, complicated or straightforward.  We no longer construct sewage works, bridges or roads, but our work ethos has not changed.

Rather differently to many of our competitors, in the main, we still do most of the work directly, as we did when we started. We deliberately mix 'managing and doing' together on many projects, which can be an advantage when time is of the essence, as it is so often today.

Underpinning our work and services is the notion that Lindum is owned by all the employees, as we now have 460 out of 500 shareholding employees and 120 of these saving on a monthly basis through SAYE scheme. This has encouraged an attitude of sharing, in terms of responsibility and benefits.

Our results and general services level suggest that the shares mean something to a lot of people. More to the point, it is genuine and not superficial and is about commitment as much as it is about reward.
