Project Details
New, high quality 2500m² bakery to facilitate the relocation of 2 bakeries from the centre of Penrith improving production efficiencies, energy costs and logistics.
Situated close to the M6, Baker House is on a sloping site which required extensive remodelling to provide the bakery with level access throughout for production, deliveries and despatch vehicles. Baker House has a raised car park area and entry into the new building is via a bridge structure to the first floor.
The new facility was constructed on traditional pad foundations with a portal framed steel structure. Composite roof cladding panels were installed and tied into external foodsafe wall panels. Floors are a mix of concrete, resin and floor tiles.
Services include refrigeration and ventilation providing a fully temperature controlled environment, new oven rooms with stainless steel wall and ceiling panels.
Access control and CCTV is installed throughout and the building incorporates a full sprinkler system with pump house and 300m² water storage tank.
Severe weather difficulties through the winter of 2010/11 caused significant additional ground preparation work
Cycle shelters are provided to encourage employees to cycle to work.
The negotiated design and build project was carried out on an open book arrangement within an agreed Guaranteed Maximum Price.
On completion of the project Nigel Oldham, Group Production Director for Greggs plc said "We enjoyed working with Lindum on this scheme and their pro-active attitude was very welcome. Designs were developed and problems were solved during a two stage tender period. The Lindum Team demonstrated their commitment to our scheme and, as a consequence, when construction started on site there were minimal changes and work progressed extremely well. We are very pleased with the end product."
