Project Details
The re-development of Homer House in Lincoln has been an outstanding example of Lindum Group's ability to work with public sector partners to deliver a complex scheme that was demanding both in terms of design and the legal process.
The complete refurbishment of Homer House involves conversion from a 1970's office block into a modern facility for delivering NHS mental health services within one wing, alongside supported and secure accommodation units for young people within the other. Lindum Group appointed John Roberts Architects as principal designer but worked closely with the professional teams of LEAP and NHS Estates. The aim was to produce a high specification premises to include total CCTV coverage, strict access control systems and personal alarm systems, all of which were integrated with common areas and the accommodation units.
The accommodation, for the charity LEAP, provides 18 units with on-site staff accommodation. There are also extensive communal facilities for staff and residents. The integration of the various requirements of the NHS and these secure residential units has required complex M&E design and coordination for which EBS Consultants of Newark was appointed.
Construction work had to be coordinated around existing tenants as well as existing telecommunication masts located on the roof. All of these elements necessitate a level of site management beyond that normally expected on a construction project.
