Project Details
This interesting project involved the construction of a three storey building in the middle of the historic town of Saffron Walden.
The scheme proved to be a challenge from day one when emergency repairs had to be carried out in the Victorian culvert running beneath the proposed site. With this done the work continued with piled foundations and a steel frame clad in a mixture of Flemish bond brickwork, rendered blockwork and feather edged boarding. The roof was a mixture of GRP, natural slate and clay tiles with GRP dormers to the front section of mansard roof. All the openings were framed in natural stone with ppc aluminium windows and doors.
The construction of the building involved a great deal of planning because apart form a small area to the front of the building there was literally no space to store materials or site items of plant.
