Lindum Group ranked 6th in the Countrys best employers [edit]
A ‘family firm’ based in Lincolnshire has been named the sixth-best employer in Britain.
Lindum Group, which has 520 staff, has made it into the top 10 list of firms in one of the biggest surveys of employee satisfaction.
The firm’s success in helping staff achieve a work/life balance was a significant factor in its ranking in the annual Sunday Times survey, which questioned 86,500 employees at 522 firms nationwide.
It is the first time that the company, based in North Hykeham, has made it into the top 10 list – last year it was ranked 30. In 2004 it was ranked 52. Staff benefits include salary bonuses, investment in training and career progress, plus a worked share-ownership scheme and the ‘friendly’ atmosphere of the company earned it its place in the survey. But it received its highest score for helping staff avoid stress, with 87 per cent of employees saying that their job did not interfere with their home lives.
Group Chairman, David Chambers, whose father John Chambers founded the company in 1956 and whose family still own the majority of shares, said: “We don’t want stressed out employees. We’re not target-based, but enjoyment driven. Profit is a goal, but it’s not the number one goal. Of course we have to provide a good service at a competitive price to our customers, but we know that if the staff are happy at work they work so much better.
The general feeling of people working here is that everyone is on the same side.”
Around 40 per cent of the firm’s staff were anonymously questioned for the survey, which names the Lindum Group as officially second among medium-sized firms in the Midlands and sixth in the country overall.
